Okay, so I’ve said how much I LOVE desserts before. I’ve been seeing a lot of posts of really cute and aesthetically pleasing soft serves on instagram. So, I researched where I could find that kind ice cream here in Edmonton.
When I finally found Yelo’d, I was a very very very happy girl! Not only do they have soft serve, but they specialize on Filipino flavours. Yelo’d is located in Old Stratcona, a perfect location in my opinion because this street is always buzzing.
The shoppe itself is quaint, which I think goes great with the whole “Mom and Pop” vibe. I appreciate how they stuck with a very minimalist look of the place, to avoid a clutter look which tends to happen if it’s a smaller location.
The available flavours of the soft serve during the day we went were ube (purple yam), buko (coconut), buko pandan and litchi (lychee). You have the choice if you want it on a black cone (I think it’s activated charcoal), regular waffle cone, a cup or go Filipino style by putting it in a bun. If you weren’t in the mood for something cold, they also have unique flavours for their cookies and specialty bread (pandesal).
We ordered an ube and pandan soft serves, with fruity pebble and coconut shreds sprinkled on top. I can tell you right now, the flavour of both the ube and buko pandan is authentic. I’ve had a lot of ube and pandan desserts in the Philippines (oh btw, I’m Filipino), and they’ve definitely nailed their flavour profile.
Therefore, if you’re looking for a sweet treat and don’t want your typical rocky road or bubblegum ice cream, go to Yelo’d! The yummy taste is one thing, but the look of their soft serve is very picturesque.
